Recovery / Addiction Treatment
Traci uses "CBT" Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for addiction treatment. CBT teaches those recovering from addiction and mental illness to find connections between their thoughts, feelings, and actions and increase awareness of how these things impact their recovery.
Professional and personal familiarity with 12-Step based recovery and how therapy, as an adjunct tool, can help to solidify & reinforce one's recovery.
People often don’t think of addictions in the realm of food, gambling, or sex however Traci has decades of experience with people who have struggled with these issues to help them gain relief and freedom from these often damaging and negative behaviors.
Traci has had extensive training in the Harm Reduction Model, which is a term for a set of practical strategies aiming to reduce the problematic effects of addictive behaviors. Most frequently associated with substance use. However, harm reduction also applies to any behaviors & decisions that have negative consequences associated with them.
Trauma Recovery
Traci uses Trauma-focused therapy sessions aimed to help patients discover coping skills and strategies and to respond in a healthier way to reminders and emotions triggers associated with the traumatic event. Some of these skills include learning anxiety management and healthier coping and relaxation strategies.
As a trauma therapist, Traci has extensive training in trauma treatment designed to help people overcome the effects of traumatic events without re-traumatizing them as an individual.
Human Trafficking / Sexual Exploitation / Abuse Survivors
In addition to utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which includes cognitive restructuring and exposure therapy, Traci is also trained in "EMDR" Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing. This is a proven method of treatment for those with certain specific traumas.
The CBT techniques Traci utilizes helps those who are sexual abuse survivors by assisting them with their depression or anxiety symptoms and any self-harming behaviors. She also supports clients with modifying dysfunctional emotions, negative or unhealthy behaviors, and the trauma that causes them.
Depression, Anxiety, Stress, or Phobias
Traci uses CBT as one form of short-term, goal-oriented therapy that focuses on the link between our thoughts (cognition) and our actions (behavior). It is intended to help people change thought patterns that cause unhealthy, unproductive, or incapacitating behavior.
Traci works to help patients learn how to recognize persistent negative thoughts or beliefs and respond to them in a more productive way; which can in turn help to make their lives healthier all around.
Traci also utilizes Psychodynamic therapy which emphasizes how certain life events and relationships, both past and present, can affect your current feelings, thoughts, emotions, relationships, and choices. This approach is an effective treatment for people who are dealing with depression. One goal of this form of therapy is to help you acknowledge and understand negative feelings or repressed emotions so you can work to resolve those internal psychological conflicts, improve your life experiences, increase your self-esteem, as well as work to establish healthier relationships.
Struggles With Life Events, Challenges, and Relationships as a Whole
As a therapist Traci will encourage you to speak openly about the range of issues you may be dealing with, to help you to uncover different memories, experiences, or dreams that helped shape your life. In addition, she will help you to explore the reasons why you have made certain adverse decisions in the past in order to help you avoid making similar choices in the future.
Some of the modalities of therapy Traci utilizes, although all effective in different ways are considered short-term therapy. Others, such as Psychodynamic therapy, can at times, take up to a year or longer to obtain enduring benefits.
*Remember, with therapy, you get out of it what you put into it. Your investment of time, energy, and resources all speak to your motivation, your commitment, and your overall desire to change.
